Claudia Sheinbaum defends AMLO: "They slander him because they're angry."

During a rally in Mérida, Yucatán, President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered a strong message in defense of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). She asserted that the criticism and accusations against the former president come from those who "have lost their privileges" and are "angry" about the changes he has implemented in the country.
The accusations against López Obrador include cases linked to the fuel theft scandal and the criminal group known as "La Barredora." Journalists and opponents link him to decisions made by his former Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, and alleged ties to collaborators such as Rafael Ojeda and Alfonso Romo.
Sheinbaum, however, rejected these reports and stated that the former president "cannot be slandered because he remained in the hearts of the Mexican people."
In her speech, the president highlighted López Obrador's career, recalling that he traveled the country until he became president in 2018. She emphasized that his legacy is not measured in monuments, but in having transformed the lives of millions of Mexicans.
"We have a great example of a man who won the hearts of the people and who will be remembered for his honesty," Sheinbaum said, calling for applause for her political mentor.
The president emphasized that her government maintains a policy of zero impunity for corruption as its central tenet. "The people's resources are returned to the people. They are not for the government or any leader," she stated.
He also responded to criticism of alleged authoritarianism in his administration, defending Mexico as "the most democratic country in the world" by allowing the people to elect the three branches of government.
Finally, Sheinbaum recalled the principles López Obrador championed during his six-year term: "Do not lie, do not steal, and never betray the people." In doing so, she sought to reinforce the narrative of continuity of the so-called Fourth Transformation and its fight against the political and economic elites of the past.
